It’s widely recognized that the elite (top 100) American colleges and universities expect successful applicants to have taken many AP courses in high school. With this in mind, Grier School is proud to announce its Elite Scholars Program.
This program identifies outstanding students at the outset and places them into Honors sections according to individual abilities to prepare them to matriculate. Honors sections are offered in all academic departments: English, Science, Math, Foreign Language, Social Studies, Economics, and Art.
A girl taking an Honors class can expect to cover about 30% more subject matter in a year. For example, a student starting in Spanish I Honors will cover approximately four years of regular study in just three.

Honors students can expect to qualify for AP courses as upperclassmen. Grier offers 16 Advanced Placement courses. Top students, preparing for the most competitive colleges and universities, are expected to take four, five or more AP classes.
For girls majoring in Economics, AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics are mandatory. For girls majoring in Art, AP Portfolio and AP Art History are mandatory. All girls enrolled in AP courses are required to take the national exams.
In the spring of 2011, Grier students on average scored one full point higher than the national average of 2.9. Thirty-five percent of the exams received a grade of 5, far above the national average for AP scores, earning many college credits.
Our Elite Scholars achieved a composite score of over 2000 in the SATs. On the SAT 2 subject tests, their average score was over 700. High scores included 800 in Math Level 2, 800 in Physics, and 790 in Chemistry.
