The Graphic Design class, taught by Steve Nelson, introduces and explores the industry standard of the image editing program Adobe Photoshop. Using Photoshop, as well as digital cameras, students learned to create images using the computer. Step by step tutorials introduced the Photoshop interface and guide students progress from simple color corrections and digital painting to complex collage projects that offer unlimited possibilities for the young creative artist. This solid introduction gives students a basic understanding of Photoshop, leading them to creative experimentation and project work. Projects are diverse, sometimes requiring students to shoot or collect photographic images while, at other times, they may have used the program as a tool for painting and beginning from scratch. Some projects are based on artistic and creative expression, while others are based on the principles of graphic design.
