MUSIC

No matter what your interests are, whether you plan to go on and major in music or just like to play or sing for fun, the faculty of the Grier Music Department will be happy to work with you and will attempt to pair you with the right teacher and class to meet your needs. Our department offers academic classes in Applied Music (a combination of daily private lessons and practices), Music Technology, and Introductory Piano Class (taught in small groups).

If you are interested in learning to sing or play a new instrument or in continuing your studies on a previous instrument, our two full-time and five part-time instructors currently offer weekly private lessons on all levels in voice, piano, flute, guitar, electric bass, violin, viola, cello, clarinet and drums. Theory, composition, musical theater and music technology are also offered as private lessons. Students participating in private studies are encouraged to perform in our spring recitals or for morning assembly, and may combine with other interested students to create chamber music groups. Qualified students may elect to participate in regional piano and vocal competitions as well.

Our performance ensembles include Concert Choir, Triple Trio (a select vocal ensemble), Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Rock Band, Flute Ensemble and Musical Theater. These groups perform both on and off campus in concerts and musical theater productions throughout the year. Enrichment activities include guest performances, workshops, and field trips to concerts and musicals in New York City and nearby Penn State University and Juniata College.

If you are interested in pursuing audio recording, engineering or production, we are equipped with a state-of-the-art ProTools studio. Our tech students gain experience recording their fellow students, setting up audio for school dance, theater and music performances and producing demo CD's.
