Grier Students Give Back to Former Librarian

Tuesday afternoon, students raked leaves and performed yard work for Joan Shotts, resident of Birmingham and former library assistant at Grier. Mrs. Shotts worked in the Grier library for nine years before retiring in 2014. Now, she and her family face a hardship: her husband Art was recently diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
After learning this news, the Grier community rallied and decided to lend a helping hand to the Shotts family. Students and Grier employees helped construct a ramp to the front door so that Mr. Shotts could maneuver more easily in his wheelchair.

A local news station picked up the story and featured it both on-air and as an online article and video seqment that describes the compassion and altruistic spirit of these Grier students. Mrs. Shotts is no doubt, very grateful for the assistance.
