Concert Features Amazing Talented Student Musicians

Grier’s Music Department organized a special mini-concert on Sunday, April 7th in the Instrumental Music Building. The concert included three pieces that featured soloists accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra of student and faculty musicians.

  • Michelle S., Anna S., Melissa K. formed a string quartet with music teacher Mark Minnich to perform Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, K521, mov.1 “Allegro.”

  • Next, Grier senior Michelle S. performed a violin solo of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35, Mov. 2 “Canzonetta,” while accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra.

  • For the final piece, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Op.15, Mov.1 “Allegro co brio,” Clara G. performed a piano solo accompanied by the orchestra.

This concert allowed these excellent student musicians to share their talents with the Grier community. Video Tech teacher Mr. Neumuller recorded and produced a film of the Beethoven Concerto, which features Clara’s piano solo. This is freshman Clara’s first year at Grier. Clara has being taking piano lessons from her mother for nine years and here at Grier, she takes lessons from Cathy Scafidi. She spent about seven months preparing for the Beethoven Concerto piece. Clara will be playing the part of Jesse Tuck in the upcoming Grier musical Tuck Everlasting. She’s excited to be part of the wonderful show that she says is thrilling, exciting, and bittersweet.

Violinist Michelle and cellist Melissa are both seniors at Grier and have participated in many Music Department Concerts during their time at the school. Grier audiences can see them perform again during Commencement weekend. Anna, an eighth grader, is the newest of the bunch and was recently seen dancing in Grier’s Spring Dance Performance. Grier looks forward to seeing more of her talent in concerts and performances to come!
