Mrs. Forest Gives Presentation to Grier Community
On Thursday, November 21, Science Department Head, Mrs. Forest gave a special presentation to members of the Grier community interested in learning more about the global climate crisis. The presentation aligned with an international climate event and the reforestation organization One Tree Planted offered to plant one tree for every attendee.
During the summer, Mrs. Forest attended a Climate Reality Project training in Minneapolis where she learned from former US Vice President Al Gore and others how to be a Climate Reality Leader. As a Climate Reality Leader, Mrs. Forest aims to do ten acts of climate awareness throughout the year.
Speaking to the Grier community is one way Mrs. Forest can share information she learned about climate change. The presentation fell on the international event known as “24 Hours of Reality: Truth in Action.” In the past, this event was a 24-hour webcast that described to viewers the effects of climate change and the actions of cities worldwide to reduce their impact. This year, the organization asked Climate Reality Leaders to give a slideshow presentation to the public. Over 1000 Climate Reality Leaders gave this presentation worldwide during the 24 hour period, with One Tree Planted planting a tree for each person in attendance.
At Grier, students may choose to participate in activities like Recycling Club and Environmental Club to focus and collaborate their eco-concious efforts. Students passionate about the science of ecology can also take courses like Advance Ecosystems Design.
