Paris Monuments At Home

To learn about French culture, students in Madame Pope’s French classes researched Parisian monuments of their choice. The students each selected a monument. Then, depending on the level of the course, they either submitted written facts about the monument or gave an oral presentation. They demonstrated their creativity by recreating the monument from objects found inside their homes! The found-object interpretations of the monuments of Paris were so creative and brought smiles to the classmates.
The photos show just a handful of the creative work submitted by the French students. Mme. Pope shared some examples of the students’ written work as well.  
 
Natalia R. selected Le Jardin de Luxembourg, which she recreated with colorful textiles and bright flowers.

Reflecting on the project, Natalia R. writes in French, <<Je pense que ce projet a été très amusant, éducatif et une forme différent de nous nous approchons la culture et histoire de la France. Je me suis amusée avec la partie créative.>>  Translated to English, Natalia writes, “I think that this project was very fun, educational, and a different way for us to approach the culture and history of France. I had fun with the creative part.”
 
Lavander W. recreated the modern monument La Grande Arche de la Défense using books and a photograph of a cityscape. Natalia T.’s interpretation of the Musée D’Orsay featured kitchen cutlery and candies. Ann S. showcased her cosmetics and washi tape in her reconstruction of Le Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge spanning the Seine River in Paris.
 
Petralinda M. completed her version of L’Hôtel des Invalides using first-aid materials, a fitting tribute to the golden-domed military hospital complex, now home to museums and the tomb of Napoleon.

Petralinda writes, in French, <<Voila ! C'est un modèle avec les articles de premiers secours parce qu'il est un jeu de mot, non? Parce que L'Hôtel des Invalides a été un hôpital. … Quand je travaillais j'ai pensé: ‘Je vais devoir penser un idée unique,’ et je pense que c'est le plus créatif projet que tu as déja vu  !>> Or, in English, she says, “Here it is ! This is a model made with first aid items because it is a kind of a play on words. L’Hôtel des Invalides was a hospital. While I was working I thought, ‘I am going to have to think of a unique idea,’ and I think that it is the most creative project you have ever seen!”
 
While this project helped the students learn about French culture and history, it also provided them with material to discuss in French during the conversation portion of their Zoom classes and gave them a chance to get creative while at home. Thank you for sharing your work with us!  It was delightful to see!
