Graduation Tribute to Class of 2020
The personnel of Grier School united to honor the Class of 2020 with a special Virtual Graduation presentation. This Grier School Graduation 2020 premiered on Grier’s YouTube Channel on Saturday, June 6th at 12pm EDT. The celebration included speeches, awards, individual recognition of graduates, remarks, tributes, and a few surprises to honor the unforgettable Grier Class of 2020.
The virtual ceremony included speeches by Director of Grier School, Dr. Douglas Grier, as well as, the Head of School Mrs. Gina Borst, who presented the Departmental Awards and Grier School Prizes. Assistant Director, Mr. Andrew Grier introduced the Grier graduates to the amazing Grier Alumnae network. Head of Counseling, Ms. Cari Crago read the names of each graduate. Following the format of Grier’s traditional Commencement Ceremony, senior members of Grier’s National Honor Society and Student Council gave speeches, many recorded from their own homes and some while wearing the white gowns they had planned to wear for the Commencement Ceremony.
While acknowledging all that the Class of 2020 is doing without during this spring, Grier teachers and staff paid tribute to Grier’s seniors in abundant ways, including through inspirational words and songs. For a special surprise, over 70 Grier teachers and staff coordinated to create a circle of vehicles around Grier’s main buildings, with one vehicle representing each senior, and the collective whole representing the tight bonds of the Grier Community. Each teacher held an illuminated candle out the window of their vehicle as dusk fell, an homage to the beloved Candlelight Ceremony. A circle of candles surrounded the fountain in the Ivy Courtyard, representing the seniors who could not attend the ceremony in person.
The entire virtual graduation is the result of many hours of hard work, leadership, and collaboration from many people, including: Mrs. Borst, Mrs. Holly Carper, Ms. Crago, Mrs. Ginger Reinhardt, Mr. Mark Minnich and nearly all the Grier faculty and staff. The video was largely filmed and produced by Grier’s own A/V teacher Mr. Bryan Beckle.
Grier Class of 2020, you will never be forgotten. We at Grier cannot wait to see what wonderful things you will accomplish and how you will continue to make the world a better place. You have touched our lives forever. Stay in touch. Congratulations from all of us at Grier!
