Annie G. ('18) Contributing to Cancer Research

Grier Alumna Annie G. ‘18 is contributing to cancer research at the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. While working in the university’s groundbreaking cancer immunotherapy lab as an intern during the summer following her freshman year, she contributed to research on a promising therapy for melanoma. This May, Annie’s research was featured in Cancer Research, a publication of the American Association for Cancer Research, crediting Annie as the paper’s fourth author. She attributes her academic success in part to her years at Grier.
Sharing her news with Grier administrators, Annie writes, “I am back at Cornell for my Junior year and it still feels like yesterday I received my diploma from Grier. [....] While I enjoyed the dance and music programs at Grier, my passion was always in the science lab.” 

Annie also thanked Director of Development Mrs. Harriet Grier for securing funding for the Science Department at Grier. Speaking of the projects she was able to conduct at Grier, Annie credits Grier, writing, “without them I would not have been able to develop the knowledge that made me such an appealing applicant. My lab was impressed with all of my skills working with cells and I would have never acquired those without Grier. It enabled me to take on more responsibility in the research and that was a reason my lab put my name so close to the top of the authors list.”

The members of Grier’s Administration and Faculty are delighted to hear directly from Annie that her Grier education established an excellent foundation for her pursuit of scientific research. We look forward to hearing more from Annie and our other amazing alumnae!
