Grier Winter Return Aligns with State Order

On Tuesday, November 17, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Health identified new COVID-19 mitigation efforts that include strengthening testing and quarantining of travelers. Grier’s current plan already aligns with these new state orders and recommendations.
As previously described in communication from Grier’s Head of School Mrs. Gina Borst, many members of the Grier community, including: teachers, day students, and students who traveled at the Thanksgiving holiday will conclude the fall semester virtually. When school resumes in January, Grier will follow a process similar to the September opening, with staggered arrivals, testing, and quarantine.

Grier will continue to require masks during the academic day, during sports and extracurricular activities, and whenever students are outside their dorm rooms and while among Grier employees, such as during weekend activities and while in community spaces.

The new Traveler Testing order requires anyone who visits from another state to have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to entering Pennsylvania. If the person cannot or chooses not to get a test, they must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Pennsylvania. For Pennsylvanians who travel to states that do not require equivalent testing, this policy applies upon their return to Pennsylvania as well. This order takes effect on Friday, November 20, 2020.

Additionally, the PA Departments of Health and Education issued recommendations to colleges and universities for testing upon return to campus after holidays, creating adequate capacity for isolation and quarantine, and preparing to enforce violations of established policies such as mask wearing and physical distancing.

During the same announcement, the Secretary of Health also issued a memorandum for acute care hospitals and a strengthened mask order. The sum of these efforts by Pennsylvania’s government help reduce the risk of Covid-19 during this season typically characterized by travel and large gatherings.
