Celebrating Mother's Day
After a condensed day of classes, last Thursday, Bridge Club hosted a crafting event at the Coffee House. The club, whose aim is to promote the welfare of girls and women worldwide, encouraged the student body to celebrate important women in their lives: their moms, grandmas, stepmoms, and other mother-figures by creating greeting cards for Mother’s Day.
In the US, Mother’s Day has been celebrated on the second Sunday of the month of May since 1914. It is a tradition to give one’s mother a card and a gift to honor her important role in the family.
For a small donation to charity, Grier students could use materials provided by Bridge Club to create lovely handmade cards to send on Mother’s Day.
Bridge Club shared the proceeds from the event with the Family Services, Inc. Blair County Domestic Abuse Shelter. This 13-bed facility provides shelter for victims of domestic abuse for up to 30 days while also providing counseling to help victims escape abusive situations and manage trauma.
Thank you, Bridge Club, for raising funds for charity and inspiring the students to say thank you to moms of all kinds. Happy Mother’s Day to all those celebrating this Sunday, May 9, 2021!
