#WhatLiftsYou at Grier: a Wings Mural

Art students at Grier have been helping to create a mural inspired by American artist Kelsey Montague’s public art campaign. Montague’s original pieces feature large, interactive murals of wings and launched the viral campaigns #WhatLiftsYou and #WhatLiftsYouSchools.  She encourages individuals and institutions worldwide to recreate her wing murals in their own communities and explore sources of inspiration.
The Grier version of Wings is made up of individually vibrantly painted and hand cut paper feathers attached to a black paper background.  Rather than painting directly on the wall, by mounting the features to a paper, the mural becomes portable, able to be displayed in different locations around Grier, and be safely stored between exhibitions.

The mural is on display in the art building right now, so anyone at Grier is welcome to experience Grier Wings for themselves and even take an awesome photo to share online.
