Samantha C. '22 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

Grier is honored to announce that our own Samantha C.’22 is a Semifinalist in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program!  Samantha’s journey began by taking the PSAT/NMSQT® in 2020 and joining less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors as the highest-scoring entrants. As a result of this achievement, Samantha has the opportunity to continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition, with finalists being announced spring of 2022.
Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) announced the names of approximately 16, 000 Semifinalists in the 67th annual national Merit Scholarship Program on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million in total.

To continue the journey, Semifinalists like Samantha must submit a detailed scholarship application that includes information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. Additionally, Semifinalists must have a thoroughly outstanding high school record, endorsement and recommendation from a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the students’ earlier performance on the qualifying test. Semifinalists will find out if they have advanced to the Finalist level in February, and the scholarship winner announcements will follow during the months of  April through July.

Samantha, the Grier community extends congratulations to you on this honor and applauds your effort and dedication. Way to go!
