Intro to Acting Tours Historic Theatre

Students in Grier’s Intro to Acting class toured the historic Rowland Theatre in nearby Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, to learn more about the role of theaters in American culture and how entertainment on the stage and silver screen have changed over time.
The theatre recently celebrated its 100th anniversary and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Rebecca Inlow, Member of Rowland Theatre Board, gave the group from Grier a wonderful tour, highlighting how the space was used over time to entertain audience with circus acts, vaudeville, opera, plays, silent movies, and talkies. In addition to live performances, the theatre still shows films, though they are all delivered digitally now, with the obsolescence of the reel-to-reel method.
