Guest Performers Kick Off Black History Month with a Celebration of Music

On Friday, February 1st, guest performers from Key Arts Productions treated Grier students to a special music program. Titled “Soul Sounds,” the trio of musicians took Grier students on a journey through the rich history of African-American music in the United States. The program began with slave call-and-response style songs and progressed through the decades with ragtime, jazz, blues, funk, hip-hop, and more.
According to the Key Arts Productions' website, this "Philadelphia-based company offers widely acclaimed presentations, using its signature blend of captivating video images, thoughtful live commentary, and rousing live musical performance, providing the perfect balance of dynamic entertainment and education significance.Since the debut of the first educational program in 1997, Key Arts Productions has become a leader in diversity programming in the arts."

Soul Sounds was a wonderful way for Grier School to kick-off the month-long national celebration of Black History.
