Grier was honored to have artist Susan Nicholas visit last for a week-long pastel workshop. Nicholas is an award-winning landscape artist who shares her mastery and love of plein air pastels and oil paints with others through workshops and retreats. She demonstrated how artists can create completely different looks with pastels by using different colored papers and by choosing a smooth or rough textured paper. Grier students had the opportunity to try out the different pastels and explore the play of colors. Then, students used photographs of landscapes and skyscapes as inspiration for finished pieces. The students and art faculty alike were delighted to have Nicholas visit!
