Meet Grier: Kara S. '21

At Grier School, we are proud of our diverse student community and culture. This year it is our goal to highlight our Grier Girls in their own words. Our series, Meet Grier, introduces our students to our extended community while showcasing their achievements and stories.

MEET KARA S. '21

  • Name: Kara S.
  • "Home" when you're not at Grier: Royersford, Pennsylvania
  • Year: Senior
  • Years Attended Grier: 3
  • Age/Grade Started at Grier: 10th Grade

How Did you Decide to Attend Grier?

I decided to attend Grier because of the wonderful riding program that is offered. When deciding on what school I should attend, a major deciding factor for me was being able to ride competitively, as well as being able to still being able to continue my schooling and have the help that I need to be successful in both areas.

Why do you prefer the all-girls school environment?

I prefer the all girls environment of Grier because there is less pressure. I felt as though in public school you are always trying to fit in, but at Grier we all have our own unique attributes and we really come together as a school and help each other. It is also nice to be able to form close bonds with the girls, and we all become sisters.

Do you participate in any Signature Programs or activities? Which and why do you enjoy them?

I am one of the captains of the varsity hunt seat team at Grier, as well as a member of the varsity dressage team. The riding team has many girls of different levels ranging from the junior hunters and 3'6 equitation competing in many national finals and horse shows, all the way down to the recreational team where some may just be learning to ride. Our riding team is a big family, and our coach Chrystal is so caring and supportive to help us achieve any goals we set.

What has been your favorite memory or story from your time at Grier?

My favorite memory that I had at Grier has to be IEA Nationals my sophomore year. That year we had taken a lot of horses, and a handful of girls that had shown or helped and I had a great time. The whole weekend was filled with fun, music, dancing, and great awards. My favorite part was the parade of teams, where we dressed up in bright pink blow up unicorn costumes, and won the team spirit award!

What are you most excited about for this year?

Since it's my last year at Grier, I am looking forward to spending it with my best friends and making a lot of fun memories.

What is your favorite tradition at Grier and why?

My favorite tradition at Grier is graduation weekend. It's a great moment to be with your best friends and see how far they've come. Though it's bittersweet, it's a great time to see your best friends graduate and prepare to go continue the rest of their lives.

What advice or message would you share with future Grier Girls?

My best advice to give a future Grier Girl is to take the risk and go after any opportunities that are given and have fun!

Just for fun - what is your favorite class, quote, book, recipe, movie, tv show, or podcast?

My favorite tv show is Criminal Minds

Thank you, Kara, for sharing!
