This Monday, January 17th, the nation honors the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. To help us celebrate this significant day, Grier Learning Skills teacher Mrs. Shelly Davis and Librarian Mrs. Rebecca Woolfrey invite the Grier community to "celebrate MLK Day your way" by exploring links to the African American National Anthem, a virtual tour of significant landmarks in King’s life, a guide from the University of Michigan’s Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs, a digital breakout game, and a curated resource list for learning more.
Celebrate MLK Day Your Way
1. Listen to the African American National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing
2. Take a virtual tour of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
3. Learn ways to defeat systemic racism and champion equality for all races by exploring this guide created by the University of Michigan’s Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs.
4. Try the MLK Jr. Day Digital Breakout. The process involves using knowledge and reasoning to solve a series of clues that “unlock” digital locks, just as you might with a physical breakout box.
