Read Books. Win Prizes. PAYRCA is Going On Now!

Students, get ready to get reading! You can participate in this annual, state-wide reader’s choice awards program... and enter the prize drawing!
What Is It?

The Pennsylvania Young Readers’ Choice Awards (PAYRCA) is an annual program that allows students in the state to vote for their favorite authors. The goal of the award is to encourage reading among young people in Pennsylvania, to involve teachers and librarians in children's and young adult literature, and to recognize authors whose works are popular among Pennsylvania students.

The program has four categories: K-3, 3-6, 6-8, and young adult, and a winner is chosen in each category every year. In May, the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association announces the overall winning books, based on the votes submitted by schools throughout the state.

How Can You Participate?

To participate, email Ms. Patalune or Mrs. Dunklebarger at library@grier.org between now and March, then start reading titles from the list of fifteen nominees.

At Grier, students who take part in the program have the opportunity to win prizes. For every book they read from the list of nominated books, students will receive one entry into the prize drawing. They will also receive one entry for submitting their vote for their favorite book before Spring Break. The library has the ballot and book lists on the big bulletin board.

Visit the library to check out one of the nominated books and check out the awesome prizes too! The winners will be drawn randomly from all entries and announced when students return from Spring Break.
