Fun and Games!

Opening weekend at Grier was one of fun and games. While student-athletes tried out for varsity sports across campus, the rest of the student body enjoyed festivities around the courtyard.

Game playing students matched wits with giant chess and checkers on the sunny lawn of Lodge dormitory. Others played oversized Dominoes, Yahtzee, Jenga, and Connect-Four in the shade of the Colonnade. Feeling lucky, groups of students joined Mrs. Carper for BINGO. Nearly nobody could resist decorating a sugar cookie with English teachers Mrs. Guydish-Bucholz and Mrs. Smith.

Representatives for clubs set up displays in the Courtyard, giving students some information and, frequently, a fun freebie like a sticker or a piece of candy. Mrs. Fernandes had a few games and contests set up at her table for Astronomy Club. To promote Gardening Club, she let students decorate mini flower pots and plant grass seeds. There will be more chances to join clubs as the year continues.

All across camps, eager athletes tried out for Varsity Volleyball, upper level dance, competitive riding, Varsity Tennis, Varsity Soccer, and Varsity Cross-Country.

After lunch, the students had fun on school sponsored trips to places like Slinky Action Zone, Mini Golf, and Roller Skating. Sunday, students enjoyed yoga, drinks at the Coffee Barn, and the pool before and after signing up for their sports and making a trip off campus for any dorm essentials. After a fun weekend, it was lights out for the first day of school on Monday!
