Yearbook Dedication to a Teacher Who Crushes It!

Every year, the staff of Grier’s Pineneedle yearbook dedicates the yearbook to a faculty member or two. This year, the staff chose the energetic Athletic Director, Mrs. Cherie Gates for one of the dedications.
The students thanked Mrs. Cherie for leading them in athletics at all levels and helping them to feel good, be healthy, and grow stronger!  She is sweet and quick to offer words of encouragement during a tough Body Sculpting Class or a Saturday morning Boot Camp.  Thanks to Mrs. Cherie, the students recognize that healthy habits like physical activity can help fuel the brain and ease mental stress. Because of Mrs. Cherie, the students feel great about themselves and their bodies!

Mrs. Cherie Gates was hired to be Grier’s Athletic Director in 2006. During Mrs. Cherie’s tenure, Grier redeveloped its indoor pool, which had become increasingly difficult to maintain, into a modern fitness center. Grier established a yoga studio inside Maple House, a campus residence constructed in the 2010s. Mrs. Cherie helped increase the number of competitive varsity teams and introduced many new recreational sports, which contributed to the birth of the school’s fox mascot. She also initiated the Annual Athletic Banquet as a means to give recognition to varsity student athletes.

Congratulations, Mrs. Cherie, for all you have done for Grier Athletics and every Grier Girl who has walked through the school doors over the past fourteen years!
