Meet Grier Series - Meet Student Council Secretary Rhianna E. ‘21!

At Grier School, we are proud of our diverse student community and culture. This year it is our goal to highlight our Grier Girls in their own words. Our new series, Meet Grier, introduces our students to our extended community while showcasing their achievements and stories.

In this Student Council Highlight, we're featuring Student Council Secretary Rhianna E!

MEET RHIANNA E. '21

Name: Rhianna E.
"Home" when you're not at Grier?: Bermuda
Year: Senior
Years attended Grier: 4
Age/Grade started at Grier: 9th Grade

Why/How did you decide to attend Grier?

I decided to attend Grier because of the amazing dance program here. I was so excited to attend somewhere where everyone was just as passionate about dance as I was. Also, when I had first visited Grier, I could already sense how familial and welcoming the environment was and I knew it would be a perfect fit for me.

Why do you prefer the all-girls school environment?

I like the all-girls environment because it creates a sisterhood and a family sense around campus. It allows us Grier girls to become so close with each other and create a positive female powered community which I think is so important.

Are you a member or officer of any clubs/organizations?

I am Student Council Secretary, in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and am a Grier School Ambassador.

Do you participate in any Signature Programs or activities? Which and why do you enjoy them?

I am in the Pre-Professional Dance company at Grier. I love this program because it allows me to be treated as and train like a professional dancer would be. The faculty not only supports but inspires us to become the best we can be by trying up to 25 hours a week. It gives us the opportunity to not only get into prestigious college dance programs but prepare us for life outside of college when we go into the professional world.

What has been your favorite memory or story from your time at Grier?

My favorite memory from Grier over the year has always been Graduation weekend. This is because it is such a bitter sweet moment. Not only is the ceremony beautiful but it is so nice to see everyone's families travel from all over the world for this day. It is so amazing to see the Seniors get recognized for all of their achievements and hard work over their time at Grier. But it has been very hard as an underclassmen for the past 3 years to watch these amazing role-models leave because we are such a tight-knit family.

What are you most excited about for this year?

I'm most excited to be in Student Council and organize the green and gold competitions and make this the absolute best year we can for everyone at Grier. Also as a Senior, I look forward to having an amazing last year with all of my best friends and creating many memories with the whole Grier family.

What is your favorite tradition at Grier and why?

My favorite tradition is Candlelight because it is very emotional and beautiful.

What advice or message would you share with future Grier Girls?

My advice for future Grier Girls is to take everything in and don't take any moment for granted. This being my 4th year at Grier, I can assure you that the time flies so fast. You should take in every lesson, every memory and every day in like it is your last. Cherish the memories and relationships you make here and don’t take any of it for granted because it will be over before you know it!

Just for fun - what is your favorite class, quote, book, recipe, movie, tv show, or podcast?

My favorite quote is "everything happens for a reason." I love this quote because you can apply it to any situation in life and helps me keep an open mind and a positive attitude. When something goes wrong in my life, I apply this quote and understand that life is teaching me a lesson and I am going to come out of it stronger.

Thank you, Rhianna, for sharing with us!
