Lake Loop Hike

Hiking has become a very popular activity for Grier girls this year!  Merci P., Louisa H., Amen D., Maria V., Ana Paula S., and Andrea Z. joined Mrs. Woolfrey for a three mile loop around Lake Perez in Petersburg, Pennsylvania.
The group began their hike at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center. When in operation, this facility is home to a wild bird and reptile rehabilitation facility and provides many opportunities for visitors of any age to learn about nature and conservation.  The hike meandered down the hill to the boardwalk over the marshlands, home to many birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, and insects.

The path continued to Penn State’s Stone Valley Recreation Area, which is part of Penn State’s Campus Recreation facilities and includes rental cabins, boats, and a challenge course.  At the end of the lake farthest from the Environmental Center, the group took a bridge across the dam that created the lake and enjoyed a pause for silliness, rolling down the grassy green hill and running right back up again.

Once the group returned to the Environmental Center, they enjoyed a picnic lunch of Panera sandwiches, lemonade, and iced tea.

It was a beautiful day and everyone had a great time getting outside, being active, and enjoying the fresh air and the warmth of the sun.
