Advanced Riding

Riders interested in the Grier Summer Advanced Riding Program should submit: a video, a letter of recommendation from their current coach or trainer, and a riding resume that outlines past showing experience.  The video should be 2-5 minutes and demonstrate the rider's proficiency in walk/trot/canter, as well as, jumping on a 2-foot or higher course. The Equestrian staff at Grier Summer will use the video to approve riders for offsite show events. If you are currently showing, please indicate in your video which division you show in – divisions such as: Children’s Hunter Horse or Green Pony Hunters, etc.

Advanced Riders who attend Session 1 of camp, will have the option to participate in three show events: onsite Schooling Show with professional judges, the USEF “A” rated State College Classic*, held in State College, PA, as well as, an onsite Exhibition Schooling Show.

Advanced Riders who attend Session 2 of camp, will have the option to participate in three show events: onsite School Showing with professional judges, the USEF “B” rated Swan Lake Show*, Littlestown, PA, as well as, an onsite Exhibition Schooling Show.

Campers may bring their own horse, with permission and proper screenings, or use one of Grier’s horses. Our horses have a range of abilities and vast experiences, spanning from Schooling to “AA” shows.

Although there are additional fees for the Advanced Riding Show Options, these events are a great way for campers to demonstrate what they have learned at camp and to practice their horsemanship.

*All rated shows are subject to change location due to potential scheduling conflicts.
