Science Competitors Earn Awards

Congratulations to the students who participated in the state level competition of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS). Isabella F., Cindy W., Judy L., and Vivian Y. all received first place awards for their projects. Yasmin G., Betsi D., Celine J., and Gia S. each took home second place awards. Great job!
In March, students from Dr. Nancy Burke's Honor's Biology classes competed in the Region 6 Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science's Regional competition held at Penn State Altoona. First-place finishers presented their research once again before a panel of judges during the state-level competition held on Penn State's main campus in State College.The presentations that the students gave before the judges are a culmination of research that began at the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

According to their website (www.pjas.net), PJAS "is a statewide organization of junior and senior high school students designed to stimulate and promote interest in science among its members through the development of research projects and investigations. " Over 550 schools and thousands of students across the state compete for this prestigious award established in 1934. Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Academy of Science, PJAS aims to promote greater participation and achievement in math and science, foster connections with scientific leaders, instill scientific attitudes and humanistic ideals that further service to humankind.
