Grier Jazz Concert

The Performers Club took to the stage again on Monday afternoon for a Jazz concert. As Orchestra Director, Mr. Mark Minnich explained, this foray into jazz was a major departure from the classical pieces and folk music the group had been studying previously. Through jazz music, the students learned to improvise and simplify.
After Mr. Minnich provided an intro to the jazz genre and what is typical jazz audience decorum, such as applauding after a great solo, the concert began.  The musicians started with “Autumn Leaves” composed by Joseph Kosma, followed by George Gershwin’s “Summertime,” and ending with a surprise “Devil Went Down to Georgia” by Charlie Daniels.

Anna S. and Cordelia-Maria C. played violin throughout the concert. Lizzie P. played piano and drums. Mr. Minnich played bass guitar and piano. Cordelia-Marie sang the devil’s part opposite Mr. Minnich for “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

GrierTV broadcast the concert live. A recording of the broadcast is available on YouTube

Thank you musicians for this terrific concert!
