Alumna Charlotte Samaroo '13 Dances in Latest Burberry Campaign
For her role in the latest campaign from luxury UK fashion house Burberry, Grier graduate Charlotte Samaroo ‘13 is literally dancing on air. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Charlotte spent her high school years dancing with Grier’s pre-professional program under the direction of Grier Dance Director Joci Hrzic.
After graduating from Grier, Charlotte earned a B.F.A. in Dance from George Mason University before earning a Master's of Science in Sports Therapy from the London Metropolitan University. Prior to the covid-19 pandemic, Charlotte danced professionally in the UK tour of Disney’s musical The Lion King.
In a July 2020 interview by Michelle Welling of The Sports Edit, Charlotte shares some excellent insight into working in the dance industry and maintaining a healthy balance of nutrition, training, and rest. She emphasizes the importance of conveying emotion through dance, and says she would tell her younger self to select work that nourishes the soul, regardless of the rank or opinion of others.
Charlotte embodies the character of a Grier girl and we are so happy to celebrate her successes and the work that brings her joy. To watch Charlotte dance on air clad in a black dress and a jacket in Burberry’s iconic nova check pattern, view the Burberry filmOpen Spaces on YouTube.
