Grier Staff Plant Trees!

Kallie Brubaker
This spring, Grier’s environmental club, The Sustainable Sisters have been focusing on trees!
We are working with Greg Williams, a local representative from PA Interfaith Power and Light – a faith-based organization of congregations and individuals in the community “responding to climate change as an ethical and moral issue, through advocacy, education, energy conservation, energy efficiency, stewardship, and the use and promotion of clean, renewable energy.”

Mr. Williams has connected us to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Keystone Ten Million Trees Partnership which aims to facilitate the planting of 10 million new trees in Pennsylvania by the end of 2025. Mrs. Brubaker, the Sustainable Sisters’ faculty sponsor, jumped at the opportunity to share the availability of free native trees and bushes with our faculty and staff. Initially anticipating only a small endeavor, Grier staff exceeded expectations and ordered over 300 trees for their personal land! Many trees will be planted on the Grier campus as well. The native species, including flowing dogwood and serviceberry, will provide habitat and food to our local animals, reduce erosion, and also remove carbon from the atmosphere. The Sustainable Sisters have been meticulously sorting the trees as they get delivered to our staff. Stay tuned for more of our efforts for the environment following Earth Day next week!
