Riding at Grier

For some, riding is just a sport. For others, it is a passion. At Grier, riding can be anything you want it to be because Grier has riding options that are attractive to riders of all levels. Grier has amazing facilities and talented instructors. Indoor rings allow for year-round riding, but when the weather is nice, many riders (and many horses) enjoy getting out into the fresh air amid a backdrop of forested mountains.
Grier hosts multiple IEA regional and zone competitions as a result of our outstanding facilities and has attracted highly professional instructional staff members, including our experienced Riding Director Chrystal Coffelt-Wood, instructor Kerry Kocher who is Head of Penn State University’s Hunt Seat Equestrian Team, and Chris McElyea who is Head of Penn State University’s Western Equestrian Team.

Grier has built a stable of 50 horses, including: quarter horses, thoroughbreds, warm-bloods, and quality ponies. In order to accommodate all skill levels, Grier School horses range from the quietest of horses up to high level show-jumpers. Girls seeking competitive Hunt-Seat or Western experiences can receive up to twenty hours of weekly instruction and rated showing opportunities nearly every weekend, both at home and away.
