Michelle Wins Emperor of Science Award

Grier School is delighted to announce that junior Michelle S. has been selected as an Emperor Science Award Winner. Michelle was chosen as one of 100 high school students from across the United States awarded for their passionate essays detailing the need to find a cure for cancer.
This is the third year of PBS’s and Stand Up To Cancer’s Emperor Science Award program. These awards are made possible by grants from Genentech, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Novartis. The ESA program is designed to empower high school students to become the next generation of scientists as they explore careers in cancer research and care through a unique mentoring opportunity. The award recipients will work with an esteemed university scientist on a multi-week cancer research project. They also receive a Google Chromebook computer to enhance their studies and to facilitate mentor access for students who live at a distance from their mentor’s research facility, and a $1500 stipend for expenses.

Michelle is a High Honors student who is active in the National Honor Society. She is also a member of the Cross Country team and is a peer tutor. Grier congratulates Michelle on this award and the dedication she put forth to earn it.
