Celebrating Individual Beauty with "I Am Beautiful Day"
Students in Grier's National Honor Society (NHS) encouraged everyone at Grier to celebrate individual beauty by celebrating "I am Beautiful Day." NHS helped the school celebrate natural individual beauty in a number of ways, including encouraging everybody at Grier to dress simply, to share positive affirmations with each other, and by hanging up signs and posters celebrating the day.
NHS encouraged the Grier School community to come together and admire every single person’s beauty issuing this challenge to the school during the morning announcements:
Today when you have a chance in class or anywhere turn to your right, left, or look behind you and tell the girl who is near you that she is beautiful. Make someone smile by letting them know that they are gorgeous and they should share their flawlessness with everyone.
NHS members also displayed black and white portraits of Grier students and teachers in the hallway and posted positive affirmations that included "You are loved" or "You are beautiful" on signs throughout the school. A poster outside NHS advisor Mrs. Michele Thibodeau's classroom encouraged students to respond to the prompt, "What makes you beautiful?"
Senior Linden M. created a remarkable video for the special day. Viewers can't help but smile when they view the film that showcases the inner and outer beauty found in each Grier girl. The video played throughout the day on the TV near the student mailboxes. All together, it was a heart warming day of focusing on true beauty.
