Individual Music Recitals

This year at Grier, five full-time and seven part-time instructors offer private lessons on all levels in voice, piano, flute, rock guitar, classical guitar, electric bass, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, clarinet, trumpet, and drums.

Students in these lessons were encouraged, but not required, to perform in the year-end recitals. This year, around sixty students participated in the recitals on eleven different instruments, including: voice, piano, guitar, ukulele, flute, trumpet, clarinet, cello, viola, violin, and drums. The students selected varied, interesting, and often personal pieces. Some performed classical pieces, while opted for Broadway or popular music. Groups of students also performed in groups including a flute ensemble or a percussion accompaniment to piano and vocals.

Voice teacher, Mrs. Julie Hanlon directed the Individual Recitals and often provided piano accompaniment to vocalists. With over sixty performances, the recitals had to be spread across six sessions throughout the week, mainly during Extra Help. The Senior Showcase held Wednesday evening gave senior music students the opportunity to shine and demonstrate the culmination of the musical and vocal skills they have cultivated during their time at Grier.
