Meet Grier Series - Meet Liza E. ‘21!

At Grier School, we are proud of our diverse student community and culture. This year it is our goal to highlight our Grier Girls in their own words. Our new series, Meet Grier, introduces our students to our extended community while showcasing their achievements and stories.

MEET LIZA E. '21

Name: Liza E.
"Home" when you're not at Grier: Huntingdon! I'm a day student though, so I might be cheating
Year: Senior
Years Attended Grier: 6
Age/Grade Started at Grier: 7th Grade

Why/How Did you Decide to Attend Grier?

I don't remember very many of the details, but a family friend recommended it to me because she was a Senior here at the time. I was in 6th grade then, and I needed some persuasion from my parents to try Grier out, but I found myself applying. And, as it turns out, here we are!

Why do you prefer the all-girls school environment?

I don't necessarily prefer it, though maybe it's because I grew up around boys and attend school surrounded by girls. I don't see very much of a difference except the difference in interests and how we interact, which honestly can vary from person to person regardless of gender. Personally, though, I do like the close-knit environment of Grier. Everyone seems to know everyone, and even though there are groups of riders, dancers, athletes, and the like, we can all get along without the social circle drama of high schools in stories.

Are you a member or officer of any clubs/organizations?

I don't participate in that many clubs, but if Kaleidoscope and Kpop club are still going to happen this year, I'll probably sign up for them again!

What has been your favorite memory or story from your time at Grier?

I think my favorite one was being in [the school musical] Tuck Everlasting. I didn't have a very big role at all, but it was still fun being a part of the musical and working with other people like that. I'd love to do it again this year, if it happens.

What are you most excited about for this year?

The biggest one might be prom, since it's the special senior class thing and I'll only ever be able to do it once. After that would probably be the musical, if we get to do that this year.

What is your favorite tradition at Grier and why?

Make a Difference Day. I don't know why, but there's something really nice about getting together to celebrate the Seniors and talk about them before they graduate and go off on their own.

What advice or message would you share with future Grier Girls?

BE YOURSELF. It sounds very cliché and overused, but no one enjoys themselves when they're not being honest about who they are. Be silly, be dumb, be teenagers! You only have so much time to live like this, and you only live once, so make the most out of your time here while you still can. It'll be worth it once you've grown up and you can look back at how far you've come.
